Abstract

The glasses with composition TBN: 80TeO2-10Bi2O3-10Na2O in mol% have been prepared by using a conventional melt-quench and pressing technique. Investigation of the prepared sample is done by XRD, EDS and UV–Visible spectroscopy. The glassy nature of prepared sample is confirmed by X-ray diffraction at room temperature and composition is verified by EDS. The density was calculated using the fluid displacement method on the basis of the Archimedes principle. UV–Visible absorption measurements have been taken in the range of 200–1100 nm of TBN glasses having different thickness for the study of optical properties. For the evaluation of optical properties of the samples such as the absorption coefficient (α), cut-off wavelength, forbidden energy band gap (Eopt), refractive index and Urbach Energy (Eu) have been done. The effect of thickness on optical properties is observed.
