Abstract

A tetranuclear manganese (IV) complex, [L4Mn4O6](ClO4)4·2H2O (1), with 1,4,7-triazacyclononane (L) as the capping ligands, has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction; monoclinic, space group P21/n with a = 21.335(6) A, b = 11.387(3) A, c = 21.788 (6) A, β = 111.410 (6)°, V = 4928 (2) A, Z = 4. Each manganese atom has a distorted octahedral environment comprised of three facially coordinated amine nitrogen atoms and three oxygen atoms, and the cation is an idealized tetrahedron. The Mn4O64+ cation corresponds to an adamantane skeleton.
