Abstract

A polymeric silver(I) complex with the formula [Ag(PDA)] n ·n(CA)·n(H2O), where PDA is N-propylethane-1,2-diamine, and CA is 4-chlorobenzoate, was prepared and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The asymmetric unit of the complex contains a [Ag(PDA)]+ cation, a CA anion, and a water molecule of crystallization. The Ag atom is coordinated by two N atoms from two PDA ligands, forming a linear geometry. The adjacent Ag atoms are linked through PDA ligands, forming chains along the unit cell a axis. The CA anions are linked to the [Ag(PDA)]+ cations through intermolecular N–H···O and O–H···O hydrogen bonds. The water molecules reside in the lattice of the structure, linked to the [Ag(PDA)]+ cations and the CA anions via intermolecular N–H···O and O–H···O hydrogen bonds. The complex shows strong cytotoxic properties to several carcinoma cells.
