Abstract

Reaction of phenylmercury (II) acetate with HPyTd (HPyTd= (5- (2-pyridinylmethylene)-2-thiohydantoin) yields [HgPh (PyTd )]. The complex has been characterized by elemental analysis and IR and NMR ( 1 H, 13 C and 199 Hg) spectroscopy. The crystal structure of [HgPh (PyTd )]·DMSO has been established by X-ray analysis. The mercury atom is coordinated to a phenyl carbon, the thiohydantoin N(1) and the pyridine N in a T-shaped arrangement and is additionally involved in weak Hg···S interactions (one intra- and one intermolecular).
