Abstract
Nanocrystalline Cr 2 O 3 powder (of size ∼20 nm) has been synthesized by soft-chemistry route and low temperature calcinations at ∼500 °C in vacuum. Nanocrystalline chromium nitride was derived from this powder by direct nitridation with argon and ammonia mixture under optimized conditions. The nanocrystalline product was investigated using powder XRD, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and the particle size was found to be about 25 nm.
