Abstract
In this study, we have synthesized poly-methyl methacrylate (PMMA) and its silica doped composites. The PMMA-silica composites were synthesized using in situ polymerization. The synthesized composites were characterised and the results were compared with the data available in the literature based on various synthesis route. In our study, we noticed increasing trend in specific gravity and hydrophobicity with the increase of silica concentration in PMMA-silica composites. However, refractive index, band gap and interaction between different PMMA chains showed decreasing trend with the increase of silica concentration in the composites. SEM images revealed the increase of surface roughness with the increase of silica concentration. We have noticed contradicting trend in refractive index and surface morphology results as discussed by O G Abdullah et al and H Wang et al respectively. However, contact angle results and Tauc plot were in accordance with the results obtained by P N Manoudis et al and O G Abdullah et al respectively.
