Abstract

Abstract Copper(II) complexes of the formula Cu(amtz)2H2O·X2, (amtz = 2-acetamido-N-(4-methyl-2-thiazolyl); X = NO3, Cl, Br), were prepared and characterised by elemental analysis, IR and electronic spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility and molar conductivity measurements. The crystal and molecular structure of the nitrate comp.lex was established by X-ray diffraction (monoclinic, space group group C2/c, a + 18.800 (2), b = 8.231(2), c = 14.115(2) A ,s = 111.389(8)°, Z = 4, R = 0.042 ). In all the prepared compounds the ligand acts in a bidentate fashion. In the nitrate complex the copper atoms is five-coordinate in a distorted trigonal bipyramidal arrangement with the ligand's oxygen atoms in equatorial positions and the nitrogen atoms of the thiazole rings in axial positions.
