Abstract
Titanyl complexes of several porphyrins are obtained in good yield by treating the corresponding free bases with titanium tetrachloride. Rotation of phenyl rings in titanyltetraarylporphyrins has been studied by variable temperature 1H NMR. An electrochemical study shows two anodic and two cathodic electron transfer steps which affect the macrocycle, not the metal ion. The titanyl group in these compounds is inert toward numerous reagents.
