Abstract

Most organizations consider that the extension of satellite applications to new areas, such as land mobile communications, will be in a rapid worldwide growth phase, up to the end of the century. The land environment and the geometrical link properties, the economical aspects with the projected saturation of the frequency allocation lead to consider non-conventional orbits for near future new communications services. This paper presents both a report of an analysis effort of the fundamental problems and a statement of the short-dated technical solutions within the particular framework of a general land mobile communication mission. The results of these efforts lead to propose the SYCOMORES concept, studied and briefly described in the paper, which is, at last, a two satellite system located on particular inclined elliptical geosynchronous orbits.
