Abstract

In this paper, a modified power conversion system which can detect and compensate a switch fault in a boost dc-dc converter is proposed. The power conversion system and the fault detection and compensation technique can be directly applied to alternative and renewable energy generation systems. A fault detection index has been developed to detect an open switch fault in a boost dc-dc converter in a modified power conversion system. A compensation control technique has been developed as well to make the system back to work under the switch fault. The proposed approach is verified both by simulations and experiments. The results will enable more timely and wide usage of alternative/renewable energy sources with improved reliability.
