Sustainable Leadership in the Norwegian Police Education: Experiencing an Almost Complete Lack of Research and Curriculum Literature Creating Unforeseen Challenges for Education and Learning
The Norwegian Police University College (NPUC) is introducing sustainability leadership as a part of its police leadership studies. At present, the NPUC has no curriculum that contains any literature on sustainable leadership in the police. Thus, our two research questions were: 1. What has been written in the research literature about sustainable leadership in the police? 2. How is the concept of sustainable leadership in the police used in learning and education of police students? We decided to conduct a systematic literature review using the search terms sustainable leadership and police. We searched the databases Academic Search Premier, Criminal Justice Abstract with Full Text, PsycInfo and Scopus as they seemed to be the most relevant databases in order to answer our research questions. The results from this search were only eight unique studies that dealt with our topic of interest. The identification of studies via databases and registers was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. We draw the conclusion that there is an almost complete lack of research and curriculum literature on sustainable leadership in the police that probably will lead to unforeseen challenges for education and learning for NPUC´s students. Keywords: sustainable leadership, police, learning, education, systematic review

Higher education leaders play an important role in promoting ethics and sustainable development in society, so they are expected to engage in "sustainable ethical leadership". Ethical leadership and sustainable leadership are intertwined concepts that are necessary to achieve success and sustainability. The purpose of the current research was to develop and validate a scale to measure "sustainable ethical leadership" in Iran's higher education system. For this purpose, the theoretical foundations and literature of internal and external researches in the field of ethical leadership and sustainable leadership were examined with a six-step approach of systematic review of the background, and based on that, the competencies, functions and consequences of "sustainable ethical leadership" was extracted and a tool was designed. In the next stage, this tool was implemented among 334 faculty members of Shiraz University and University of Technology who were selected by stratified random sampling method. The content validity of the tool structure was measured using item analysis and first- and second-order confirmatory factor analysis, and its reliability was measured using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Validation results showed that the "Sustainable Ethical Leadership" scale had a suitable fit. In the variable of "sustainable ethical leadership", competences, functions and consequences with a factor load (0.94), (0.98) and (0.95) were significant explanations of this variable and their validity was confirmed. Other results indicated the validity and reliability of this scale. The sustainable ethical leadership scale can be a valid tool to evaluate the degree of orientation of university managers to ethical dimensions and sustainable development at the same time.

PurposeLiterature encompassing sustainable leadership and developing leaders sustainably are still in infancy (Lambert, 2011). Nevertheless indications identify leadership as a vital cog in achieving sustainable organisations. Sustainable leadership can allow a fast, resilient response which is competitive and appealing to all stakeholders (Avery and Bergsteiner, 2011a, b). Arguably, organisations’ need to stop considering leadership as a control function (Casserley and Critchley, 2010; Crews, 2010) and instead focus on dialogue and mutual-interdependency between leaders and their followers (Barr and Dowding, 2012). The purpose of this paper is to explore and analyse the concept of sustainable leadership to present a conceptual framework surrounding sustainable leadership.Design/methodology/approachThis conceptual paper will review the existing frameworks of sustainable leadership and present a conceptualisation of the frameworks. This conceptualisation synthesises frameworks and literature surrounding the concept of sustainable leadership which involves work from Casserley and Critchley (2010), Avery and Bergsteiner (2011a, b), Hargreaves and Fink (2006), Davies (2007) and Lambert (2011). Seminal themes from the synthesised frameworks are presented in order to attempt to unify the conceptualisation of sustainable leadership.FindingsWithin leadership literature, stakeholder approaches (Groves and LaRocca, 2011; Avery and Bergsteiner, 2011a); discourses underlining the importance of relationship between leaders and followers (Barr and Dowding, 2012); and discussions about the need to develop reflexive and participative leadership models (Kopp and Martinuzzi, 2013) have become prominent. Sustainable leadership embraces all of these new components. The concept advocates organisations should shift emphasis from a traditional singular focus on finances, to a view that organisations are contributors to wider environmental and social influences (Crews, 2010; Avery and Bergsteiner, 2011a).Originality/valueThis paper explores the theoretical frameworks which surround sustainable leadership and will synthesise and present commonly referenced facets of the concept within the internal and external factors influencing sustainable leadership.

While leadership can be an influential lever for change, unprecedented and unbeknownst change may itself become instrumental in driving the need for a sustainable leadership. The current study is a conceptual research paper that is based on the meta-analysis of the existing studies on sustainable leadership. Broadly, the objective of the study is to explore what is sustainable leadership and what does sustainable leadership mean in education. More specifically, the objective of the study is to correlate the two variables and investigate how does sustainable leadership impact school improvement. The method engaged for this study relies on literature reviews from journal articles, theses proceedings and conferences, books and online content related with the key variables and research objectives. On the basis of the extensive review of the rich empirical data, the current study establishes that sustained leadership is anything but a one man show. In the context of education, school improvement is more holistic under sustained leadership, the key to school success and a harbinger of progressive change. While the current study aimed to establish a comprehensive understanding of the research questions, it is recommended that further research, both empirical and non-empirical must be done in order to uncover more issues related to sustainable leadership and school improvement.

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to determine, according to the views of primary school teacher, the sustainable leadership behaviors of school principals and the relationship between sustainable leadership and the formation of schools as learning organizations.
Methodology: This study aimed to determine the relationship between the sustainable leadership behaviors of school principals and the formation of schools as learning organizations in public primary schools located in Yozgat, Turkey. A mixed- methods approach, was employed in the study, which utilized both quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative portion of the study utilized a "predictive correlational design," while the qualitative portion utilized a "phenomenological design" to examine the research question.
Findings: The research findings indicate that school principals exhibit high levels of sustainable leadership behavior based on the average scores given by teachers. In terms of dimensions, the highest average scores were obtained for deep learning. According to teachers opinions, the average scores for a learning organization were also found to be high. The highest average score in terms of dimensions was for team learning. A positive relationship was discovered between sustainable leadership and organizational learning. Qualitative results indicated that school principals who scored high in all dimensions of sustainable leadership provided more answers. Similarly, when examining qualitative results related to organizational learning, it was discovered that school principals who scored high in all dimensions of sustainable leadership also provided more answers.
Highlights: The literature on sustainable leadership in educational organizations is very limited. Therefore, sustainable leadership perceptions in educational organizations can be examined by considering different concepts together. The relationships between these concepts and their impact can also be examined. Based on the views of primary school teachers, this study suggests that sustainable leadership has an impact on the learning organization. New studies can be conducted on other samples to compare the results of this study, and to investigate the impact of sustainable leadership on educational organizations further.

The aim of this study is to identify the scope of practicing sustainable leadership by managers of private secondary schools in Jeddah Governorate, to determine to what extent the availability of innovative work behavior among teachers, to classify the correlation between the practice of principals of private secondary schools in Jeddah Governorate for sustainable leadership and innovative work behavior of teachers, also to detect the differences Statistically significant between the averages of teachers' responses about their estimates of practicing sustainable leadership by principals of their schools, which is attributed to the variables (gender, years of experience), and revealing statistically significant differences between the arithmetic mean of teachers' responses about their estimates of their innovative work behaviors; Which is attributed to the difference (gender, years of experience). A quantitative approach (survey and correlation) is used to achieve the objectives of the study and to collect data. Researchers used the sustainable leadership scale prepared by Hargreaves & Fink (Hargreaves & Fink 2012), translated it, and based on its codification and arbitration by Al-Khamisa (2022) which he translated and based on codifying Al-Qarni (2020). The study community consisted of private school teachers at the secondary stage, whose number was (1589), the research sample was chosen using the appropriate random sample method (opportunity sample), whose number was (336) with a percentage of (21, 1) from the study population. According to findings of the study school principals contribute to practice sustainable leadership with a (high) level and all dimensions of sustainable leadership came with a high degree of practicing among school principals. The study also found that innovative work behavior is available to teachers with a (high) degree from their perspectives. In addition, it was found that there is a high-value and statistically significant direct correlation relationship at the level of significance (0.01) between the practice of sustainable leadership by school principals and the innovative work behavior of teachers. Moreover, the results show that there were no statistically significant differences in their appreciation of the practice of sustainable leadership by their school principals according to the different years of experience, while the study illustrated that there were statistically significant differences in their appreciation of the practice of sustainable leadership by their school principals according to gender. In contrast, the study demonstrates that there were no significant differences statistics between the averages of teachers' responses about their appreciation for their innovative work behavior according to the variables (gender and years of experience). The research recommends the necessity of consolidating the concept of sustainable leadership among school principals through programs and training packages, holding seminars and conferences that promote this concept and entrenching it among educators, building specific initiatives aiming at promoting innovative work behavior of teachers, and establishing activities and events that ensure the sustainability of these practices in work environments scholastic. The current study suggests some future studies related to the study variables.
