Introduction: Sustainable architecture is a design and construction approach that seeks to reduce human impact on the environment and promote a more sustainable future. It is based on the use of environmentally friendly materials, energy efficiency, and adaptability to the changing needs of users and the environment. The One Health approach views sustainable architecture as a fundamental pillar in the ambition to achieve a comprehensive and holistic approach to minimize the environmental impact of buildings and improve the quality of life of their occupants.Objective: To analyze sustainable architecture from a One Health approach.Methods: 67 articles were identified, of which 25 were included, more than 75% from the last 3 years. These articles were sourced from academic search engines such as PubMed, MedLine, Ovid, ResearchGate, and Google Scholar.Development: Green building strategies, the use of non-toxic materials, and the integration of green spaces not only reduce environmental impact but also promote the physical and mental health of residents while preserving surrounding ecosystems. However, their implementation requires multidisciplinary collaboration, coherent public policies, and greater social awareness to scale effective solutions.Conclusions: The review highlights how sustainable architecture, aligned with OneHealth, can mitigate global crises such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and emerging diseases.

The adaptive reuse of cultural heritage buildings as tourist attractions is a growing trend. From an architectural point of view, this concept can be optimized with green architectural retrofit strategies, which help minimize construction waste and encourage environmental conservation. The challenge lies in technically implementing green architectural strategies to transform cultural heritage buildings to ensure safe and comfortable use as tourist destinations. This research uses method in-depth observations of several case studies to identify the subject’s strengths and weaknesses through SWOT analysis. The findings from this analysis are used to develop strategies for managing cultural heritage buildings through green retrofit architecture. The research results provide detailed insights into the effectiveness of management practices based on previous research, addressing issues such as limited awareness and capacity, challenges in interpreting and managing cultural heritage, data management, costs, and inadequate knowledge. Research recommends applying green retrofit techniques such as energy efficiency, water and waste management, landscaping, building material, and indoor air quality to cultural heritage buildings. This approach aims to optimize and increase energy efficiency by revitalizing buildings through landscape designs that consider environmental conservation and climate change.

Climate Responsive Green Building Strategies in Circular Cities: A Comparative Study for Two Regions

This paper provides a comparative analysis of green building strategies in circular cities from an architectural perspective. It focuses on Belgrade, Serbia, which has a temperate continental climate, and Podgorica, Montenegro, with a mild subtropical climate. The data were gathered through an online questionnaire disseminated among 140 architects in both cities. A five-point Likert scale was applied, and the data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS, version 23). Descriptive statistics, factor analysis, reliability testing, and group comparison methods were employed to ensure a valid, reliable, and transparent framework for processing and interpreting the research of data. By analyzing locally available materials, technologies, and climate factors, the research found that the adoption of circular economy principles does not significantly differ between the cities. This suggests that economic and policy-related factors may have a greater influence than initially expected. Additionally, there was no significant difference in the integration of greening strategies integration (p = 0.08), challenging the assumption that climate-responsive design would lead to distinct variations in urban form. However, locally available materials and technologies had a stronger impact on green building practices in Serbia (p = 0.01). The study highlights that sustainable architecture is shaped by a combination of local resources, regulatory frameworks, and socio-economic conditions rather than climate factors alone. These insights contribute to the theoretical advancement of climate-smart green building strategies in circular cities. They provide valuable guidance for practitioners and policymakers. Future research should further explore the interplay of socio-economic and regulatory influences to refine strategies for climate-responsive and circular architecture.

Purpose: Energy saving in the built facilities is getting important due to energy crisis. The Korea government has been implemented several energy and green building policies and practices. The both of government and industry also developed green building strategies ant technologies to reduce energy consumption and carbon emission. The purpose of this research is to identify applicable green building strategies and technologies for that can be cost effective and applicable to a multiplex house. Method: This research identified appropriate green building strategies from analysing green building strategies from G-SEED certified apartment projects and popular green building strategies. This study also adopted a survey research method to find out the applicable green building strategies for a multiplex housing. In addition, this research also conduct cost estimating to identify initial cost premium of green building strategies. Results: The research outcomes in this study guide a building owner to know about initial cost premiums of green building strategies and technologies and an architect and contractor to identify appropriate and cost effective green building strategies that can be applicable to a multiplex house.

Prospects, Challenges and Solutions for Achieving Sustainability in Implementing Green Architecture Strategies in High-Rise Buildings: A Review

Due to the escalating concerns over climate change and environmental degradation, the adoption of green architecture principles in high-rise buildings has become imperative. This study examined existing literature on green architecture with a view to determine prospects, challenges and solutions of implementing green architecture features within the context of skyscrapers to achieve sustainability. The study is a review paper that relied on secondary sources to gather data from 43 articles. The data were content analysed using thematic approach and the findings descriptively presented in themes, with the aid of figures and tables. The findings underscored the potential of green architecture to address pressing concerns related to climate change and environmental degradation. The review revealed that incorporating green architecture principles in high-rise buildings offers significant potential for reducing energy consumption, minimizing environmental impact, and enhancing occupant’s well-being. However, conflicting priorities, operational inefficiencies, and the potential pitfalls of green building initiatives pose significant hurdles to implementing green architecture strategies in high-rise buildings. Also, the scale and complexity of skyscrapers which demand innovative solutions and careful considerations that are not oftentimes fully envisaged in the planning and design stages, is also a challenge. The study suggests fostering communication among stakeholders and advocates for widespread adoption of green building practices towards enhancing sustainability in the development of high-rise buildings.

ABSTRAK. Arsitektur hijau atau yang dikenal dengan sebutan green architecture merupakan salah satu konsep pada arsitektur yang mempunyai karakteristik dan berfokus pada arsitektur yang ramah lingkungan. Poin penting yang terdapat pada arsitektur hijau ini yaitu seperti meminimalisasi konsumsi sumber daya alam, efisiensi energi, penggunaan air yang bijak dan berkelanjutan, dan material non polusi serta daur ulang. Pada bangunan Pendidikan konsep arsitektur hijau ini sangat penting digunakan, selain untuk mengurangi emisi dan pemanasan global, arsitektur hijau ini sangat berpengaruh dengan kinerja atau kenyamanan orang didalam nya saat menuntut ilmu, fenomena desain bangunan pendidikan berkonsep arsitektur hijau banyak digunakan pada bangunan Universitas yaitu seperti Universitas Bina Nusantara Alam Sutera, konsep desain pada bangunan Universitas Bina Nusantara Alam Sutera ini mengusung arsitektur hijau yang hemat energi. Tujuan dari peneleitian ini adalah untuk (1) memahami bagaimana konsep arsitektur hijau pada bangunan Universitas Bina Nusantara Alam Sutera, (2) Memahami konsep dan prinsip- prinsip pada arsitektur hijau sehingga menjadi bangunan yang ramah lingkungan, yaitu dengan cara menganalisis konsep arsitektur hijau berdasarkan prinsip- prinsip khususnya membahas tentang: pemanfaatan energi pada bangunan, tampak bangunan, tapak bangunan, dan material yang digunakan pada bangunan. Selain itu manfaat dari penelitian ini juga untuk mengetahui bagaimana prinsip-prinsip pada bangunan yang berkonsep arsitektur hijau dan dapat menjadi acuan untuk mahasiswa arsitektur dalam merancang bangunan yang berkonsep arsitektur hijau. pada penelitian ini pengelolaan data menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan strategi kualitatif, yaitu penggambaran atau menjelaskan keadaan yang ada di lapangan dengan cara menganalisis serta membahasnya secara luas sehingga dapat menemukan hasil dan kesimpulan. Bina Nusantara Alam Sutera, the design concept for the Bina Nusantara Alam Sutera University building carries energy-efficient green architecture. The purpose of this research is to (1) understand how the concept of green architecture in Bina Nusantara Alam Sutera University buildings, (2) understand the concepts and principles of green architecture so that it becomes an environmentally friendly building, namely by analyzing the concept of green architecture based on the principles - the principles specifically address: energy utilization in buildings, the appearance of the building, the site of the building, and the materials used in the building. Apart from that, the benefits of this research are also to find out how the principles of buildings with a green architectural concept can be used as a reference for architecture students in designing buildings with a green architectural concept. In this study, data management uses descriptive methods with qualitative strategies, namely describing or explaining the conditions in the field by analyzing and discussing them broadly so that results and conclusions can be found. This paper explores the role of sustainable architecture in combating global warming and addressing climate change challenges in Nigeria. Drawing on a range of relevant references, the study investigates various aspects of sustainable design principles, energy efficiency, climate adaptation strategies, case studies of sustainable architectural projects, policy and governance, and future directions for sustainable architecture in Nigeria. The findings highlight the significance of sustainable architecture in mitigating the impact of the built environment on climate change, reducing energy consumption, and promoting environmental sustainability. The paper emphasizes the integration of passive design strategies, renewable energy sources, efficient building envelope design, water conservation techniques, and the use of sustainable materials and construction practices. Additionally, it examines case studies, such as the Pyramid-I- City project, which exemplify successful implementations of sustainable architectural solutions in Nigeria. The study also underscores the importance of government regulations, incentives, and collaborations between architects, policymakers, and stakeholders in promoting sustainable architectural practices. Despite the existing barriers, such as limited awareness and technical expertise, the paper recommends strategies for promoting awareness and education within the architectural community and highlights future directions for sustainable architecture in Nigeria. The article deals with the study of ‘green architecture’ as a new format of architecture development, the future of sustainable design, its key principles that contribute to the harmonious combination of natural and artificial environments on the examples of modern trends in the design and construction of ‘green architecture’ objects, taking into account modern innovations. ‘Green architecture seeks to create environmentally friendly buildings that minimise energy and water consumption while maximising the use of renewable resources and recyclable materials. In recent years, ‘green architecture’, also known as sustainable architecture, has become an object of interest among architects, designers and investors alike. This trend is a consequence of the growing awareness of climate change and the need to reduce the environmental impact of the construction industry. The environmental problem has become relevant in all spheres of human life today. Humanity has become concerned about the preservation of natural resources and environmental issues. There is a need to find new ways to solve these problems. The purpose of the paper is to study green architecture, its key principles that contribute to the harmonious combination of natural and artificial environments. The main aspects of greening buildings, such as green facades and green roofs, are considered. Their benefits are discussed, such as improved air quality, reduced cooling and heating loads, and noise reduction both in the urban environment outside the building and in the environment of living, working or relaxing inside the building. ‘Green architecture is a constantly evolving field that offers innovative solutions to reduce the environmental impact of the construction industry. These buildings not only set a new standard in construction, but also serve as inspiration for future sustainable architecture projects. The development of new materials and technologies continues to improve efficiency and reduce costs, making sustainable architecture an increasingly attractive option for construction projects around the world. A structural equation model of stakeholder roles in the implementation of green construction strategies in the Indian construction industry

The construction industry is one of the leading contributors to greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. Hence, the construction industry needs to start implementing green construction practices. However, various barriers are faced by the stakeholders of the industry which are restricting the shift to green construction. The 12 most frequently mentioned factors in the literature were used to prepare a questionnaire instrument. Responses were received from various stakeholders of the industry on the importance of the mentioned barriers on a five-point Likert scale. A structural equation model was developed attributing the 12 barriers to the 4 responsible stakeholders like Government& Statutory bodies, the Construction industry, Researchers & Academia, Consumers & clients through detailed observation, and experts’ opinions. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed on the model using the SPSS AMOS package, to validate the goodness of fit of the developed model. ‘Limited professionals with proficiency in green building techniques and strategies’, ‘Lack of awareness of the need for green construction’ and ‘Financial & economic feasibility issues’ were found to be the three most influential factors. The survey data was proved reliable through Bartlett’s test of sphericity, Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin test and other goodness of fit tests.

Mental Health Impacts of Droughts: Lessons for the U.S. from Australia

Drought is a condition already endemic to many regions of the United States and is likely to increase in frequency and/or duration under a changing climate. Drought can have wide ranging health impacts, particularly among vulnerable subpopulations such as rural, agricultural communities. Although poor mental health outcomes are an established public health concern for such populations during and following drought periods, the pathways through which drought can impact the mental health of rural residents are not well understood. In addition, most of the studies to date have been carried out in Australia, a country that has decades of experience with protracted droughts. As regions in the United States struggle with the extended droughts, lessons and evidence from Australia may be particularly useful in the development and implementation of surveillance and mitigation initiatives. This article provides an overview of the existing evidence of drought impacts on the mental health of residents in Australia with particular focus on vulnerability and discusses the application of this knowledge to drought response and planning in the United States.
