Sade Village displays a unique settlement pattern that is influenced by geographical conditions and the needs of its residents. One of the buildings that follows the contour of Sade Village is Bale Tani, a medium-sized bale generally inhabited by families with a middle economic level. Bale Tani has undergone several changes due to the wishes of its residents, which have the potential to influence the sustainability of its vernacular architecture. This research aims to analyze the sustainability of Bale Tani vernacular architecture in Sade Village using the Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) method through the RAPFISH application, as well as carry out leverage analysis to identify indicators that influence sustainability. The results of the analysis show that the overall level of sustainability of the Bale Tani vernacular architecture is less than satisfactory, with a sustainability index value reaching 47.64%. Each of the analyzed dimensions, such as visual image, climate responsiveness, and comfortable living space, shows a low level of sustainability. Of the 18 indicators observed, nine indicators, including kamar dedare, kamar dengan to’aq, roof sheathing, wall sheathing, window openings, building floor, floor plan, roof, and wall, are the dominant factors in the sustainability of Bale Tani vernacular architecture.

This paper is concerned with a methodological study of Hayashi’s eej-type quantification method (EQ) and development of a new method (PAMSE) of multidimensional scaling (MDS). First we propose procedures to compare EQ with other methods of MDS in terms of the separation of eigenvalues. Secondly we examine a problem of the fit and dimensionality and point out a peculiar property inherent to EQ. Third we propose a new method of MDS, which is developed from EQ, intended principally for dissimilarity data measured on the medium level between ordinal and interval scale levels. Our method is conceptually similar to but fundamentally different from Johnson’s in that our index of fit is specially formulated in view of the scale level. The method has been found to work successfully, giving a high degree of the rank correlation between the dissimilarities and the derived distances.

Child marriage among teenagers has become a serious social issue, particularly in Central Lombok Regency. This phenomenon shows a tendency for teenagers to opt for marriage at a young age rather than continuing their education, which brings negative impacts on health, education, and socio-economic welfare. According to data from BKKBN NTB, in 2015, West Nusa Tenggara had the second-highest rate of child marriage in Indonesia, with a percentage of 5.81%. Despite government regulations aimed at preventing early marriage, their implementation has been less than optimal. SMP Negeri 5 Praya Timur, located in Beleke Lebe Sane Village, East Praya District, Central Lombok Regency, faces this issue directly, with many students deciding to leave school to marry at an early age. A lack of understanding regarding the negative impacts of early marriage, particularly related to reproductive health and education, is one of the primary causes of this phenomenon. The community service activity conducted at SMP Negeri 5 Praya Timur aimed to provide comprehensive counseling to students about the dangers of early marriage and the importance of continuing education to higher levels. The method used was Participatory Action Research (PAR), which involved active participation of students in understanding issues related to early marriage. This counseling was expected to raise student awareness about the risks of early marriage and motivate them to pursue further education. The results of this activity showed an increase in students' understanding of the negative impacts of early marriage and the importance of education as a path to a better future.

Pariwisata Halal di Nusa Tenggara Barat: Implementasi dalam Kawasan Ekonomi Khusus Mandalika
  • Sep 1, 2023
  • Journal of Social and Policy Issues
  • Ilham Zitri + 4 more

The concept of halal tourism for the Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara is to increase cultural values with an Islamic identity, which is considered a manifestation of local wisdom. The Mandalika Special Economic Zone is a popular tourist site that attracts both domestic and international visitors. The establishment of the Mandalika circuit, designed to facilitate the hosting of the MotoGP race as a globally renowned event, is expected to significantly enhance international tourism by attracting a larger number of foreign visitors. As a result of this competition, it is expected that a significant number of hotels and restaurants will be constructed in the vicinity. Nevertheless, it is important to note that the establishment in question offers not only halal food and beverages, but also non-halal options. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the strategies for the successful implementation of Halal Tourism inside the Mandalika Special Economic Zone, located in the Central Lombok Regency. The approach that researchers employed in this study is qualitative. The data collection techniques used are interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the research show that halal tourism standards are still ambiguous, so there are still many people who do not understand the standards themselves. This is due to the lack of socialization from related agencies or organizations, giving rise to misperceptions of the concept of halal tourism itself. The policies implemented by the provincial government have not been implemented optimally. This is evident from the halal team, which has not yet been formed by the Provincial Tourism Office. The state of the population in West Nusa Tenggara, particularly in Central Lombok Regency, is conducive to the implementation of the halal tourist concept. The Kuta Mandalika region offers a favorable environment for Muslim tourists, ensuring their comfort and convenience throughout their vacation.

Indoor Robot Localization Based on Multidimensional Scaling
  • Aug 1, 2015
  • International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks
  • Wei Cui + 4 more

In pertinence to the application of multidimensional scaling (MDS) methods in ranging-based positioning systems, an analysis is firstly conducted by the classical MDS algorithm. Modified MDS algorithm and subspace method are presented in localization application. We also depicted the unified framework and general solutions of MDS methods. However, the least square solutions under this framework are not optimal. Their performance is still related to selection of coordinate reference points. To address this problem, a minimum residual MDS algorithm based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed to derive a new solution for indoor robot localization under the unified framework. The result of analysis indicates that the performance of minimum residual MDS method is immune to selection of reference points. Furthermore, the localization accuracy for indoor robot has been enhanced by 41% as compared with the classical MDS algorithm.
