Abstract

This paper deals with the dynamic behavior of suspended bridges subjected to separately or simultaneously acting moving loads and earthquake’s loading. The bridge is subjected to random earthquake charge, giving rise to vertical and horizontal motions of the bridge’s pylons. The bridge is subjected also to concentrated or uniformly distributed loads acting eccentrically and moving with constant speed. In this work, the vibrations of a bridge due to the above loads acting separately or simultaneously are studied. It is also studied the effect of the earthquake arrival time on the bridge’s dynamic behavior, during the motion of the load moving along the bridge.A three-dimensional analysis is considered for the solution of the bridge model. The theoretical formulation is based on a continuous approach, which has been used in the literature to analyze long span bridges.
