Abstract

Susceptibility measurements have been performed on well characterized YBa 2 Cu 3 O x samples. The x(T) curves obtained for the tetragonal antiferromagnetic samples necessitate a strong correction for Curie-Weiss-like susceptibility contributions, while this correction is virtually negligible for the orthorhombic superconducting samples. Using the preparation method applied here, the occurrence of this x -contribution, which is characteristic for localized magnetic moments, is hence bound to the tetragonal phase.
