Abstract

Since the first report on successful clinical use of free microvascular bone grafts by Taylor, numerous applications for this procedure have been devised. This paper presents a detailed description and illustration of the anatomy and the different surgical steps in the dissection of the fibula for free microvascular transfer. The possible advantages of vascularized fibular grafts compared to conventional procedures and the time length for healing under different conditions are discussed.
