Abstract

Peyronie's disease (also known as plastic induration of the penis or penile fibromatosis) most commonly manifests as penile deformity during erection. The etiology of this condition is believed to be repetitive trauma causing a delamination injury to the insertion of the septal fibers within the tunica albuginea. In susceptible individuals, a scar may form, resulting in the characteristic plaque of Peyronie's disease. Surgical management of Peyronie's disease should be viewed primarily as palliation of the mechanical effects of the disease rather than a cure.
