Abstract

A geoeletric sounding by direct current, employing the vertical electrical sounding (VES) was used by adopting the Schlumberger array. This was to determine aquifer formations in the area. The survey was carried out at selected points The interpretation of the data made it possible to determine the geologic units. The top soil whose resistivity range from 211-438 ohm-m has an average thickness of 1.7m. This is underlain by a second layer whose resistivity vary between 59 and 203 ohm-m and a thickness that vary from 6.5 to 11.2m. This layer is composed of sand which is probably clayey in profile 1. The third layer is a clayey sandy zone with low resistivity values. This is further underlain by a fourth layer whose resistivity range from 122-301 ohm-m. This layer is ascribed to be a sandy layer. This layer is identified as the aquifer of interest in the area. Nigerian Journal of Physics Vol. 16(2) 2004: 63-65
