Abstract

Abstract The Paleocene-Eocene boundary is defined on the basis of planktonic foraminifera. The Globorotalia parva zone, the uppermost Paleocene zone, represents the Thanetian, at least in part, or Landenian stage, including the lower part of the Ilerdian stage of Hottinger and Schaub (1960). The G. subbotinae zone, the lowermost Eocene zone, is equivalent to the lower part of the Ypresian, Sparnacian, or Londonian stage, which includes the middle and upper parts of the Ilerdian stage.
