Abstract

Most of us can only imagine the impact on parents when a child is diagnosed with a serious condition or suffers significant injury. When Lynne Watson’s son was in a road traffic accident she needed help with what she describes as ‘the transition from being the mother of a healthy teenage son to dealing with the many emotions of a parent of an adult son with an acquired brain injury’ (ABI). On page 25 of this month’s issue she describes the mixed responses from services as she struggled with the complexities of her child’s care; the fact that he was 18 years old made things even more challenging.
