Abstract

We propose a new lidar scheme with the emission source of even coherent states of light. This lidar can outperform the performance enhancement achieved by coherent states lidar in the presence of loss and noise. The binary-outcome photon counting measurements are introduced to enhance the resolution and sensitivity. Numerical results show that even coherent states give better resolution than coherent states only in small loss regimes. However, in the noisy cases, zero–nonzero detection gives worse resolution and better sensitivity than parity detection in the phase diffusion regions of κ<10−1 and κ>0.003, respectively.
