Abstract

The sulfide solid electrolytes are reviewed in this chapter, which is divided into three sections. The first section offers an overview of the general properties of sulfide electrolytes, including several properties relevant to their importance as a primary choice for the preparation of all-solid-state batteries. The second section reviews the synthesis routes and mechanisms involved in their formation; furthermore, the most common synthesis processes, based on solid-state reactions (high-temperature and mechanical milling syntheses) and the more recent liquid-phase syntheses, are described. In the last section, the classification of sulfide electrolytes is briefly summarized, with a particular focus on their developmental progress. The chapter concludes with an overview of sulfide electrolytes.
