Abstract
Certain paleoarches, described in geologic literature solely on the basis of thinning or absence of strata, are myths not confirmed by structural evidence. The interval and datum selected for isopach representation are critical and of utmost importance in stratigraphic and structural interpretation. Sub-Trenton isopach maps for Ohio accompany a structure map and stratigraphic section. Postulation of a "Waverly arch" is not justified. The concept of a "Sangamon arch" in Illinois is discussed and rejected. It is suggested that the "Adirondack arch" in New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia is not a structural entity, nor is the "Mid-Michigan" ridge.
