Abstract

1. 1. Acetylserotonin methyltransferase (ASMT) activity in nine parts of the eyes of trout was measured and was highly localized to the retina and its pigment epithelium. 2. 2. Incubations of retina with thirteen hydroxyindole congeners of N-acetylsserotonin demonstrated relative levels of methylation of six additional substrates. 3. 3. Similarity is noted between the ASMT activities of trout retina and pineal tissue of certain mammalian species.
