Abstract

From medical constraints to child care needs, substance- abusing pregnant women present unique challenges for treatment providers. This article provides findings from a statewide survey of treatment providers questioned about the treatment offered pregnant abusers in the State of Iowa. Providers were asked about the incidence of pregnant women seeking treatment, drugs of preference of pregnant women, and services offered these clients. A call is made for treatment approaches which recognize the special needs of pregnant women.
