Abstract

The start-up of denitrification reactor using rice straws as the solid carbon source and impact of various factors on denitrification process were studied. When the initial NO3−-N concentration was 24mg/L, 12°C of temperature, 7∼7.5 of pH, 6.25h of hydraulic retention time (HRT), the reacter was started up soon. And pH and temperature have some influences on denitrification process. When the initial pH value was 7.5 and temperature ranged between 20∼30°C, 98% of nitrate could be removed, NO3−-N concentration of the effluent was 1mg/L, nitrite was not detected, pH did not changed and COD of the effluent was about 30mg/L. The nitrate in groundwater was removed using rice straw as a solid carbon for biological denitrification successfully, moreover, denitrification process has a great ability of acid and alkali resistance and low temperature tolerance. So Using Rice Straw as the Solid Carbon Source has a high practical value for denitrification in groundwater.
