Abstract

The purpose of this study is to clarify the spatial improvement approach against the occurrence of vacant lands made by setback or demolition of buildings considering the characteristics of existing historic buildings and its actual condition. Focusing on the characteristics of historical landscape in the Seki-Juku Important Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings since 1980, we first analyzed the contents about the system design, operation system of this approach by through literature survey and interview survey. Second, we further evaluated the actual condition of this approach through analyzing the distribution of vacant lands and the achievement of spatial improvement.
