Abstract

In order to improve the insensitivity of the shaped charge warhead, the adaptability of the NTO-based explosive and the TKX-50-based explosive in the shaped charge warhead was studied in this paper. Insensitive explosive formulations were selected by analyzing the density, pressure and detonation velocity of the existing insensitive explosives. In order to obtain the plan of vice grain, the detonation and detonation propagation characteristics of the selected insensitive explosive formulations were studied. DOP experiments were conducted to compare the armor-piercing capability of the shaped charge warhead using insensitive explosives with and JO-8 explosives respectively. Results show that all the static armor-piercing capability of shaped charge warheads, which applied NTO/CL-20, TKX-50 and TKX-50/RDX respectively, is more than 7 times of the charge diameter. This can meet the application requirements efficiently. Among these warheads, the compatibility of NTO/CL-20 blended explosives with the shaped charge structure is better, and the vertical static armor-piercing capability of the corresponding warhead is 8%~10% higher than that using JO-8 explosives meanwhile the static armor-piercing capability is greater than 9 times of the charge diameter.
