Abstract

This study attempts to build on the understanding of building behavior by analyzing the base shear as well as the lateral forces, on available storey levels, in seismic zones II and III, when buildings are erected on the three soil-types. The seismic loading applied is in accordance with the varying parameters of zone, soil type, and the structure height. Varying heights in the buildings is as follows: G+3, G+6 (with storey height being 3m.) The gathered observations speak of the similarity in the impact of the loads on the structures when the soil type changes. For G+3 structures the base shear and storey shear is identical in all the soil types where as for the G+6 structures there is a variation in hard soil while it is same in other two soil type.
