Abstract

Inrush current during the charging of coupling transformer in ±800kV UHV(Ultra high voltage) DC(Direct-Current) converter station, will make the converter AC(Altenative-Current) bus voltage distortion and trigger harmonics in DC system. The harmonics are dominated by the second and the third harmonic. Harmonic will lead to DC voltage, current and power fluctuations, especially DC voltage fluctuation will make the DC system occurring overvoltage, which may result in DC power system harmonic protection alarm and even action in severe cases. It will affect the safe and stable operation of the DC project. Take means of theoretical analysis and digital simulation, the charging inrush current and voltage harmonic characteristics of the two expansion group of 750/500kV coupling transformers in Tianshan converter station are studied. Also, the influence to harmonic protection of Hami-Zhengzhou ±800kV UHV DC project is reappraised and the suggestions on optimization of charging mode for the coupling transformers are proposed. The results provide effective countermeasures for ensuring the safe operation of Hami-Zhengzhou UHV DC project, which can also offer useful reference and guidance for other similar projects.
