Abstract

Ecological footprint is a viable approach to measure the ecological economic system of a region, as an important method in harmonizing land-use and ecological environment. According to the concept and calculation method of ecological footprint and ecological harmonious degree, the ecological footprint and ecological harmonious degree of Gu’an County in 2008 were analyzed with related statistical data. The results indicate that Gu’an's per capita ecological footprint was 2.1907 hm2, while the per capita biocapacity is only 0.5398 hm2; the per capita ecological deficit reached 1.6509 hm2. The ecological harmonious degree was 0.4025, implying that Gu’an was not in the state of sustainable development status. Meanwhile, the ecological footprint and ecological harmonious degree of each town of Gu’an County were apparent. Based on these, some suggestions were put forward to alleviate Gu’an County’s ecological deficit and make Gu’an County transfer to sustainable development model between land use and ecological environment.
