Abstract

Results are presented from numerical study of the thermal state of the metallic bath of a 350-ton-capacity ladle-furnace unit (model UKP-350) with a 45-MVA transformer. The studies were performed using specially developed mathematical models of hydrodynamics, heat transfer, and mass transfer. A comparison is made between variants for heating of the melt while it is injected with argon, the variants involving the use of one, two, or three lances in the bottom-mounted injection block.
