Abstract

The most preferred option to control excessive water production is gel treatment which blocks the water bearing layers and reduces the water production from the wells. In this work, effectiveness of liquid amino resin as water shut off gel is studied. The bulk gelation studies were conducted on the liquid resin sample by mixing it with tap water and a catalyst. The experimental investigations furnishes that a gelled mass is formed with the liquid resin which is compatible with the formation fluids and rock powder of the wells of Indian oil fields. From the in situ gelation studies, it was also observed that the developed system decreases the permeability of the core significantly which shows its potential for sealing the high permeable layer contributing water in the pay zones.
