Abstract

The ability of the capsular polysaccharide (CPS) of Rhizobium trifolii 0403 to bind with the clover lectin, trifoliin A, appears transiently with cell culture age (Dazzo et al. 1979). A similar phenomenon has been observed with the lipopolysaccharide of R. trifolii 0403 (Hrabak et al. 1981). Previously, a polysaccharide depolymerase had been isolated from the phage lysate of R. trifolii 4S (Higashi, Abe 1978) was used to hydrolyze the extracellular polysaccharide to its repeating unit for structural analysis (Amemura et al. 1983). In this study, a polysaccharide depolymerase has been isolated from a phage lysate of R. trifolii 0403 to identify the lectin-binding site of the CPS of R. trifolii 0403.
