Abstract

1. Internal diffusion is the rate-limiting stage of the kinetics of sorption of metal ions from sea water on different clinoptilolites. The dependence of the effective internal diffusion coefficients on the degree of ion exchange was established. 2. The distribution coefficients and single distribution coefficients of the metal ions were determined, and the orders of the sorption selectivity were established. 3. All of the clinoptilolites studied can be used for primary concentration of rubidium from sea water; it is expedient to use zeolites from the Dzegvi and Detzami deposits for extraction of strontium. 4. The differences in the selectivity of clinoptilolites from different deposits for metal ions are apparently due to the ratio of macrocations in them and the concentration of nonexchangeable K+ and Mg2+ ions in them.
