Abstract

Will the next decade see the virtual disappearance of asbestos, zinc and copper from the building scene? Will the architect become essentially an industrial designer? Will work on finishings and internal layouts become the province of the client/customer, much of it on a do-it-yourself basis? These are some of the indications in a research study (1) of likely trends up to 1990 commissioned by the Dutch Stichting Bouwresearch (SBR). Though specifically related to the Netherlands, the conclusions have a broader relevance.
