Abstract

ABSTRACT NiAl–(Cr, Mo, Zr) alloys were successfully prepared by metal injection moulding (MIM) technique as well as avoiding common defects produced by other processing techniques. Debinding and sintering process had an important influence on the quality of samples. The effect of sintering temperature and time on microstructure evolution and room-temperature mechanical performance of NiAl–(Cr, Mo, Zr) alloys were investigated. Due to the existence of high strength Cr(Mo), the yield strength of NiAl was significantly enhanced. With the increasing sintering temperature and time, the Cr(Mo) phase aggregated and grown. The sample sintered at 1390°C for 3 h exhibited optimal mechanical properties. The yield strength (YS), ultimate compressive strength (UCS) and elongation of the sample at room temperature were 1133 MPa, 3223 MPa and 25.5%, respectively. MIM had some advantages in the preparation of difficult-to-deform superalloy due to the near-net forming process.
