Abstract

Participation of lattice oxygen of various binary or multicomponent oxide catalysts was examined using 18 O 2 tracer in the oxidation of propylene to form acrolein. The extent of the participation of lattice oxygen varies from several layers to whole oxide ions in the catalyst particles depending upon both structure and component elements of the catalysts. The results gave no convincing evidence that selectivity to form acrolein is correlated directly to the extent of the participation of lattice oxygen.
