Abstract

AbstractAn automatic apparatus for D.T.A. was installed and calibrated giving good reproducibility of the results. Preliminary studies of Hyderabad clays by D.T.A. in their raw and washed forms showed that Kamthana and Shekapur clays were well crystallised kaolinitic type, the latter indicating the presence of small amount of dolomite. The Pachegaon clay was found to be a poorly crystallised kaolinitic fire-clay with appreciable quantity of free quartz (> 20%). Srirangapur clay exhibited three well defined sharp endothermic peaks at 150°, 705°, and 885°C corresponding to montmorillonite in addition to a small endothermic peak for kaolinite. The D.T.A. data of Chintryal clay revealed the presence of large amount of free quartz (> 30%) and complete absence of kaolinite.
