Abstract

Different shapes of microstrip patches are proposed in order to achieve high gain, directivity, bandwidth etc. depending on application and designer's specifications. Gain and bandwidth of an antenna are the vital parameters which will affect the performance of a wireless system. High gain and bandwidth are usually achieved by modifying the feeding technique or shape of a microstrip antenna or the ground plane. Ground plane is generally modified by using Electromagnetic Bandgap Structures (EBG) or Defective Ground Structures (DGS). The implementation of these structures will make the patch antennas highly frequency-selective and thus reducing the unwanted radiations or surface waves. The other method to enhance bandwidth or gain is to etch slots on the patch. The slots etched on the patch antenna too make it highly frequency selective. The dimensions, number, position of slots will either enhance the gain or bandwidth of the antenna. Proper choice of the above parameters of slot can enhance both gain and bandwidth of the patch. This paper presents the study of different configurations of double split ring slotted patch antenna in band of 12–12.89GHz. The antennas like double split ring slotted antenna, arrays, DGS double split ring slotted antenna array are studied briefly using Advanced Design System-2016 software.
