Abstract

Prostate cancer is the third most frequent cancer in men and prostate-specific antigen is used for diagnosis of the disease despite its low specificity. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) secreted by all types of cells have raised interest for their association with cancer progression. Attenuated Total Reflection-Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy was used in this study to analyse urinary EVs for detection of prostate cancer. The wavenumber differences between cancerous and non-cancerous groups with the overall 70.27 % discrimination of the model suggested that the analysis of IR spectrum derived from urinary EVs could be effective for detection of prostate cancer using urine samples.
