Abstract
ADP, collagen and epinephrine induced platelet aggregation was measured by the optical density method in patients with cerebral arteriosclersis (45 cases) and controls (25 cases) in order to clarify that patients with cerebral arteriosclerosis have a thrombotic tendency. In addition, platelet count, platelet adhesiveness, fibrinogen, cholesterol and triglyceride were measured. The results obtained are as follows.1) The time and rate of collagan induced platelet aggregation were higher in the patients than the controls (P<0.05).2) Neither ADP nor epinephrine induced platelet aggregation was significantly different in both groups.3) Platelet adhesiveness was higher in the patients than the controls (P<0.05).4) Epinephrine induced platelet aggregation correlated with serum cholesterol (r=0.469, P<0.05).These data have probably reflected a thrombotic tendency in patients with prolonged cerebral arteriosclerosis.
