Abstract

Forty four superior jackfruit genotypes were collected from three districts of West Bengal, India based on jackfruit descriptor (2000). These genotypes were analyzed based on 19 important quantitative and 7 qualitative characters. From the analysis of genetic parameters, it could be concluded that characters like weight of fresh flakes without seed, weight of fresh flakes with seed, stalk length, fruit yield per tree, rachis diameter, rachis length, fruit length, shelf life, number of flakes per kg of fruit, flake width, number of seeds per kg of fruit, vitamin C, TSS/acid ratio and sugar/acid ratio could be used as selection criteria for development of effective and productive plant types in jackfruit. Further, these 44 genotypes were grouped into ten clusters for quantitative characters and eight for qualitative characters.
