Abstract

Studies were made on anomalous retinal correspondence with reference to fixation behavior in four cases of heterotropia consisting of two exotropes (one with central fixation, O. U. and the other with eccentric fixation) and two esotropes (one with central fixation, O. U. and the other with eccentric fixation). Two cases with central fixation were compared with those with eccentric fixation in the squinting eye by examining them with the synoptophore, phase difference haploscope, binocular visuscope and fundus camera. The results indicated that the area of anomalous retinal correspondence was likely to coincide with the diplopia point of the squinting eye in all cases examined. However, no binocular vision was demonstrated regardless of fixation behavior, whether central or eccentric fixation they may have, indicating that all cases had monocular vision of the fixating eye.
