Abstract

The operating principle for a new design of simple field instruments for measurement of direct solar radiation, inclusive of all wavelengths at normal incidence, has been worked out in details, and a general theory has been developed for the purpose, on the basis of a spherical absorbing surface. Reasonable agreement, within experimental limitations, has been obtained between the theory and the results of preliminary observations made with a simple laboratory set-up.
