Abstract

Abstract The halogen NQR spectra of mercuric chloride, bromide and iodide in donor-acceptor complexes with pyridine-N-oxide and γ-picoline-N-oxide are reported. In addition, mercuric bromide complexes of tetrahydrofuran, acetophenone, benzophenone and phenoxathiin and the mercuric chloride-bismethanol complex are reported. In most of the compounds, two reasonably well separated halogen resonances are found which indicates that two quite different halogen sites exist. In several compounds, the frequencies are very closely spaced. The results indicate that tetrahedral mercury probably does not exist in these complexes.
