Libraries have been putting considerable efforts in the design of information products and services and distributing the same effectively and efficiently. In view of the social, economic, and technological changes, library and information centers have begun to realise that marketing of information products and services is an integral part of administration. This paper attempts to work out marketing strategies for the university libraries in Kerala by analysing the marketing orientation through a user survey. The data for the study was collected from a sample of 842 users of the university libraries in Kerala such as Kerala University Library (KUL), Mahatma Gandhi University Library (MGUL), Cochin University of Science and Technology Library (CUSATL), and CH Mohammed Koya Library of University of Calicut (CHMKL). The study found that most of the respondents are willing to pay for information services since they rely more on the quality of information services than the existing fee services. The preferred pricing policy is to provide necessary subsidy to the extent of 50 % based on the payment capacity of various user segments. The survey found that only a few users are aware of existing service offered by the university libraries and there is need for effective promotional strategies. The study suggested various strategies for repositioning the university libraries in Kerala for marketing. This article describes the objectives and establishment of DELNET. Various activities of DELNET, such as, promotions of database creation among member libraries, resource sharing and standardisation are discussed. lnformation on funding and the hardware/software infrastructure is also provided along with databases and services. In Delhi, libraries have been growing very fast in number and size during the last four decades. They cater to the specialised and general clientele and are of various types. These include institutional libraries, research libraries, government libraries, public libraries, departmental libraries besides the libraries of the universities, colfeges and schools. During the recent years, increase in information has led to increase in the demands of the users. It has been noticed that in this era of information explosion, libraries in lndia are generally ill-equipped to handle and retrieve information effectively. The financial resources and the space requirement for housing library collections are limited in almost all of the iibraries. The option left with the forward looking librarians has been to promote the sharing of resources by automation and networking. With this objective. http://dx.doi.org/10.14429/dbit.16.2.3252

Library use study helps in understanding the pattern of use of reading materials and provides basis for developing need-based document collection and redesigning their services. Results of the study of use of reading materials by B.E. and M.Tech. students, and teachers, and opinion of librarians regarding the use of reading materials by students and teachers in 50 Engineering Colleges in Karnataka State, including three deemed universities are presented. Majority of students and teachers visit library at least once in a week and on an average, they spend less than two hours during each visit. Purpose of visit to library is mainly to borrow text books. Students and teachers vary in their approach to locate reading materials in the library. Students directly go to the shelves and search for reading materials, while teachers consult OPAC to locate required reading materials. Students are found to use informal channels like discussion with friends and teachers, while teachers depend more on books and journals to satisfy their information needs. While B.E. students use reading materials mainly to prepare for examination and seminars, M.Tech. students use them for completing their project work. Teachers use the reading materials in the library mainly for teaching, preparation of research articles and research project reports. Text books and Indian journals are the most frequently used documents in the library. All the users are satisfied with the text book collection and Indian journals in their libraries. A strong positive association is found in the opinion among students, teachers and librarians regarding the above aspects, except the adequacy of document collection where there is only a marginal association.

This paper aim ed at ascertaining the status of the ICT -enabled library and information services in University of Nigeria, Nsukka Library System. The study employed a case study design. Questionnaire was the main instrument for data collection and it was used to gather data from fifteen (15) library officers and Fifty (50) librarians who constituted the population of the study. Five specific objectives derived from the purpose guided this study. Data collected were analyzed using mean ( X ), Standard Deviation (SD) and t - test statistic used to determine the significance of the responses of the library officers and librarians at 0.05 probability level. The study found that some conventional library and information services such as library catalogue, table of contents, document delivery, interacting with users and user education were ICT -enabled or driven. New services found to be rendered efficiently with ICT include providing access to e -journals, e -books and to internet and internet services. The critical constraints to ICT -enabled LIS include poor funding, inadequate ICT infrastructure and inadequate ICT staff. To address these problems, it was suggested that there should be budget provision for digital library projects and series and that private sector investment should be promoted in university libraries. Based on these findings, some recommendations were made. The library, especially a university library, as platform for innovation and creativity requires proper understanding of the status of services, project implementation and ICT applications including services that are ICT -driven. This understanding will not only improve library and information services but also pr ovide opportunities for innovative services. This paper provides a framework for understanding the status of library and information services due to developments in ICT in university libraries. The framework depends on the conventional LIS at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka Library System. Key Words: Information, Communication, Technology, Library, University, Services.
