Abstract

Intelligent computer-assisted instruction (ICAI) systems have continually sought increased flexibility to respond appropriately to the multi-faceted interests of students. Research on theImage student modeler of theGuidon2 ICAI system has developed amultiple-anticipation approach to plan generation and interpretation that directly meets a wide range of communication goals: providing information support, encouraging exploration with interesting elaborations, recognizing strategic mistakes in actions and plans, evaluating success in domain tasks, diagnosing misconceptions, and recommending improvements for mistakes.
