Abstract

The relationships between the conformations and ambident reactivity of alkali ethylacetoacetate ion pairs are discussed. The structures of these enolates are determined in the solid state and in solution, in the presence of crown ethers and cryptands. The lithium ethylacetoacetate triple anion exhibits a peculiar structure and extra stability.
