Abstract

The structure-sensitive magnetic properties of ${\mathrm{Ni}}_{78}$${\mathrm{Mn}}_{22}$ were investigated by measuring the low-field dc susceptibility of this alloy prepared in different ways: arc melted, as-rolled, heat treated at 900 \ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}C and water quenched, and in the form of crystalline and amorphous films. These measurements reinforce the dependence of magnetic properties on structure previously observed in ac susceptibility measurements. On the other hand, the spontaneous magnetization remains essentially unchanged through the spin-glass freezing temperature in both crystalline and amorphous ${\mathrm{Ni}}_{78}$${\mathrm{Mn}}_{22}$.
